Pilates is an exercise method developed during the First World War by Joseph Pilates. Pilates called his method "Contrology" because it was based on a few precise movements emphasizing control of the core postural muscles. The program focuses on these core muscles to help keep the body balanced and provide support for the spine. Much of low back pain is caused by weakened abdominal and deep back muscles. Strengthening the core muscles promotes good posture and alignment, thus reducing back, neck and hip pain. Of course, there is also the added bonus of a more trim and toned waistline. Prevent back pain before it begins! Pilates is a great addition to a regular massage routine.
